Silver Medal Finish at 2012 Sail for Gold

John and I had our best world cup finish ever with a silver medal at the 2012 Sail For Gold regatta in Weymouth.  With gale force winds in the mid 40 knot range with gusts in excess of 50 knots, the race committe cancelled racing again for Friday.  Today, Saturday we are packing up the boat and will attend the medal ceremony this evening before flying out Sunday.

The Canadian Sonar Team of Bruce, Logan and Scott, also medalled with a 3rd place finish.  Go Canada!

John and I putting on blue bib to signify our 2nd place.

Today was the 3rd day of racing and we're currently in 2nd place by 3 points. The breeze was up, the breeze was down. We hung in and sailed well with two 2nd's. Yesterday we sailed 3 races in pouring rain and big breeze. Was soaked right through but again we held our own with a 2, 4, 3 place finish.

All paralympic classes carried GPS trackers so you can follow our racing from the website:

Victory Race

Today we had one race before the wind died.  We nailed our start in clear air and kept the lead.  GBR passed us near the windward mark in the second leg but we re-gained our lead downwind.  We were able to extend our lead downwind and cover the competition on the last leg for a first place finish!

That's us with the white spin crossing the finish ahead of AUS (blue spin).  YEAH!

Skandia Sail for Gold 2012 Starts Monday

After a week of training at the Olympic & Paralympic venue in Weymouth, England and a few days of boat work, our team is now ready to compete in the next regatta, Sail for Gold. For the entire event, there is an amazing presence with 60 countries, 517 boats and 716 athletes. For the SKUD18 class, all the teams who will be competing at the Paralympic Games are here. It is a good gauge for us. Racing begins on Monday. Follow us for updates here or daily results will be available on the Sail for Gold website, http://www.skandiasailforgoldregatta.co.uk/.
Keep cheering us on!
